Nasum Ahmed Included in Bangladesh ODI Squad for West Indies Series
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the inclusion of left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed in the One Day International (ODI) squad for the ongoing series against the West Indies. The decision comes after spinners played a significant role in the first match of the series, which Bangladesh won.
Nasum Ahmed, a 30-year-old veteran, brings experience to the squad. He has previously played 18 ODIs, taking 16 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 4.48. His last ODI appearance was in December 2024.
The spin-friendly conditions at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur likely influenced the BCB’s decision. In the series opener, spinners from both sides proved effective on the slow, turning pitch.
West Indies’ left-arm spinner Khary Pierre delivered a frugal spell, conceding only 19 runs in his 10 overs and taking one wicket. Off-spinner Roston Chase also contributed with two wickets for the visitors.
However, it was the Bangladesh spinners who ultimately secured the victory for the home side. Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam combined to take eight wickets, showcasing their effectiveness in the favorable conditions. Their performance highlighted the importance of spin in this series.
Bangladesh currently leads the three-match series 1-0, following their win at the SBNCS in Mirpur. The remaining two ODIs are scheduled to take place on October 21st and 23rd at the same venue.
The Bangladesh ODI squad now includes:
- Mehidy Hassan Miraz (Captain)
- Tanzid Hasan Tamim
- Soumya Sarkar
- Mohammed Saif Hasan
- Najmul Hossain Shanto
- Tawhid Hridoy
- Mahidul Islam Ankon
- Jaker Ali Anik
- Shamim Hossain
- Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan
- Rishad Hossain
- Tanvir Islam
- Taskin Ahmed
- Mustafizur Rahman
- Tanzim Hasan Sakib
- Hasan Mahmud
- Nasum Ahmed
Nasum Ahmed’s inclusion adds another dimension to Bangladesh’s bowling attack, providing Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz with more options in the spin department.
