For the first time since 1970/71, South Africa will not host a single Test match in the 2025/26 season. Instead, their focus will shift to an overseas Test schedule, white-ball internationals, and the SA20 tournament.

The decision stems from South Africa’s commitments to play four away Tests in Pakistan and India, combined with the financial strain and declining interest in hosting Tests. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has increasingly favored shorter formats, given their commercial viability and higher spectator turnout.

Despite concerns over the absence of Tests, fans will still enjoy a packed schedule. South Africa's men’s team will face West Indies in five T20Is, while the women’s side will host Ireland and Pakistan. Additionally, New Zealand A and Bangladesh U-19s will tour, ensuring continued cricketing action.

However, Test cricket will return with full force in 2026/27 when England, Australia, and Bangladesh visit for eight Tests. While some lament the temporary absence, CSA views it as a strategic move, ensuring sustainable growth for South African cricket.
