Heather Knight has decided to step down as the captain of the England Women’s cricket team after nearly nine years in the role. However, she will remain available for selection as a player. Since taking over the captaincy in 2016, Knight has led England in 199 matches, securing 134 victories, making her one of the most successful captains in England Women’s cricket history.
One of her most memorable achievements came in 2017 when she led England to a historic ICC Women's World Cup victory at Lord’s. She also guided the team to two other ICC tournament finals and played a key role in England’s record-breaking run of eight consecutive ODI series wins. Under her leadership, England also won the IT20 series during the 2023 Ashes, drawing the thrilling series and elevating interest in women's cricket globally.
Reflecting on her tenure, Knight expressed immense pride in her journey, highlighting the 2017 World Cup win and the significant growth of women’s cricket as major milestones. She thanked her teammates, coaches, and supporters for their unwavering encouragement and emphasized her excitement to focus on her batting and support the new captain.
England Cricket is expected to announce Knight’s successor soon, marking the start of a new era for the team.
